Thatched roofing goes through stages of tremendous popularity, but even though a lot of people like the appearance of thatch, they are put off from buying it for their homes because it does require a fair amount of maintenance. In fact, to maintain a thatched roof you’ll need to have a professional perform maintenance on it, ideally every year so that the damage doesn’t build up. Not so with artificial thatch.
Artificial thatch has a number of benefits; it is often made to be more secure, so it won’t be damaged as badly from high wind; as an artificial – non-organic – product, it won’t biodegrade at the same rate as organic; it can also be made with fire-retardant materials, so it is typically safer as well. All of these combine to make a product which is ideal for many home owners, in that it maintains the appearance of a thatched roof without many of the drawbacks, and even if the price of the materials is marginally higher the reduction in the maintenance costs will typically come to outweigh this difference in initial cost.
